How to Backup a WordPress Website and Wp Plug-ins Considered

WordPress is presently generating headlines in the online community as it is continually increasing in its global recognition and user base. Websites called Web 2.0 sites that are similar to wordpress are getting so widely used establishing a new era of internet websites. We might be in a new era but still, the problems of website failures haven’t changed. A decade ago a single backup is more than enough for your html website. Since hmtl websites has no database functions, there is no change at all with the website files no matter what thereby a single backup is enough. A single wordpress blog constantly updates with post and hundreds of comments, so our website backup should be as dynamic and flexible as the blog itself

Hence, it might be great if we have a website backup solution for our WordPress website. What we need to have is a backup solution either online or offline, and if possible something that can be scheduled for a routine backup.

The following are some options to backup your WordPress website:

Online backup approach – Allows you to create online backups by availing the service from hosting providers. The backup will then be stored by your backup provider to an external website or server. A prominent advantage of an online backup is that it allows you to make full website backups conveniently and keep them in a remote and safe location.

Plugin solution – generally uses plug-in function of the wordpress. Each of this plug-ins can be scheduled and have different coverage, strengths and disadvantages.
WordPress database backup (WP-DB-Backup) – is a plug-in that will enables you to replicate your database for backup. It supports joomla, wordpress and different forms of web 2.0 sites that can be scheduled for a routine backup.
WordPress Backup (BTE) – This plugin allows you to backup your directory,themes,plug-ins and tools in a single zip file.. This allows a restore backup for your desired WordPress theme though it lacks database coverage.

WP-DBManager – Allows you to perform database repairs, and several other clever capability such as drop or clear tables etc. Yet again this works with scheduling but covers the database only.

All of the back-up files provided by the plug-ins are stored as compressed files. Being a single compressed file will allow it easily portable to your hard drives or pen drives for an array of backups.

The backup will then be sent to you online through your email account. It is advisable for you to use gmail account as it allows you to have 20MB of storage space for each backup. Thus a website with a larger database has to find other options to backup as the plug-in backup option is limited to 20 MB.

cPanel procedure -cPanel website backup boasts of a full website backup feature and an easy to use interface. A substantial merit of a cPanel backup approach is that it supports full website backup contrary to plug-ins which handles only particular files.

• To backup through cPanel, first get a FTP application such as filezilla, Ipswitch WS_FTP etc.
• Next Log into your cPanel account
• Explore your Phpadmin then go to your WordPress website files
• Simply click the Export Tab then choose to add/drop table
• Check the option that allows you to complete the inserts
• Then click the save as file check box
• Disable compression except if your database is huge
• Commence with the backup button

Choose whatever backup that suits your need. Whatever backup option you choose is fine – It is the practice of having a backup for your websites that matters most. Keep in mind that, possessing a fail-safe backup is the most important thing in running a web business.

The Amazing World Of WordPress Plugins

There are so many things amazing about the WordPress blogging platform. Its user-friendly interface, its interlinking features, its SEO potentials, its interconnectivity with other WordPress blogs, its ability to publish content so easily and so efficiently well, and so much more!
But the best thing about the WordPress blogging platform has got to be its highly customizable nature.
In fact, there is a big community on the web dedicated to create WordPress themes, WordPress modifications and WordPress plugins.

/>

WordPress plugins are, without a doubt, the most enjoyable features of WordPress blogs. WordPress plugins add to the functions that WordPress can accomplish.

There are WordPress plugins that are as trivial as providing weather reports, providing a ticker for the latest news in the field of sports or the stock market or the world, reporting post counts, providing a rating system for each blog post, and the likes. There are also WordPress plugins that are as essential as putting a stop to spam comments – which are prevalent these days – and automating the publishing of posts.

Among the most important of these WordPress plugins are those that automatically display AdSense blocks on a particular area of the page. Without these WordPress plugins, bloggers will be pressed to manually tinker with the source code of the blog to incorporate their AdSense ads. There are also WordPress plugins for other Pay Per Click (PPC) programs like AdBrite.

Before magazine-style WordPress themes became popular, WordPress plugins that automatically embed YouTube videos were very popular. They’re still widely used these days – especially those that cater to other video streaming websites like DailyMotion and MegaVideo – but the sheer convenience of having it as one of the features of an appropriate WordPress theme has lessened the plugin’s popularity.

Yet another integral WordPress plugin is one that adds icons that, when clicked, will submit a particular blog entry to the corresponding social news network. WordPress plugins like this are responsible for driving fantastic traffic to the blog overnight. Just imagine if a reader likes what you posted and he’ll have the option to immediately submit your blog entry to a social news website like Digg.com, and once submitted, Digg users will also enjoy your blog entry and they will vote for it. You’d have hundreds and thousands of visitors to your blog in a matter of hours! Other social news networks and social bookmarking websites are also included, like StumbleUpon, Technorati, Del.icio.us, Slashdot and Reddit.

WordPress plugins add a limitless potential to the blogging platform. Every day, a new plugin is created and published in the WordPress community. The WordPress platform is an ever-evolving program because of the commitment of its devoted flock.

And online marketing will only become better because of it!

5 Must Have WordPress Plugins – Are You Missing One?

WordPress is arguably the most used CMS (Content Management System) online. It is partly due to its flexibility as a blog platform, and partly due to the large number of plugins and themes made by its large community of users.

/>

However, this huge choice of plugins can easily confuse a new user. Therefore, for those of you who are unsure which plugins to use, here’s a list of the top 5 must use WordPress plugins:

1. Akismet – Akismet is pre-bundled when you install WordPress. It is made by the same company that makes WordPress. Akismet is a spam blocking plugin that works very efficiently to block out spam comments.

If you run a large blog, you really need this plugin. The amount of spam doing the rounds online is tremendous. If you were to moderate these comments one by one, you would have to spend hours maintaining your blog. Akismet makes the whole process automatic and saves you countless hours of effort.

2. All in One SEO – What good is a blog if no one reads it? With All in One SEO plugin, all your in-site SEO needs will be taken care of automatically. It will create meta tags, meta descriptions, etc. on its own. If you want your blog to be found by Google or other search engines, this is a must-have plugin.

3. Google XML Sitemaps – This plugin automatically creates a sitemap of your blog to aid Google’s spiders in indexing it. Sitemaps are just what you think they mean: a map of your site. They can make it much easier for Google to find and index your site, so this plugin is a must have, regardless of the size of your blog.

4. One Click Plugin Updater – If you’re like me, you probably hate to update your plugins one-by-one. Most plugins have several updates a month, and updating them can be a real pain. One Click Plugin Updater simplifies the whole process by giving you the option to update all your plugins with a single click. A huge timesaver if you find yourself using too many plugins.

5. WordPress Database Backup – You never know when some unfortunate accident may befall your blog. Once, one very large blog of mine got hacked and consequently, I lost my entire database. I didn’t have a backup database, so I had to create everything from scratch (something that took me over 100 hours). With WordPress Database Backup, you can get it to make automatic backups and mail it to you on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.

So there you have it: 5 plugins that are essential to any WordPress installation!

My Top 10 Profitable WordPress Plugins

I’ve noticed a lot of people are interested to install lots of plugins but really don’t make it profitable on their blog. You can have over 50 plugins that all work and make noise, but none of them are any good to make your blog stand out. (Additionally, my term of profitable also refers to helping you market your blog and also creating a brand). Since most plugins are free, it’s very easy to find them on the Internet and install them with WordPress 2.71. Furthermore I’ve provided a link to the download page for each plugin. Hope this list will help others and it’s in alphabetical order, enjoy!

/>

Add Post Footer

The Add Post Footer is very useful in helping you cross sell products, a free eBook to encourage readers to subscribe or other top articles that are related to your post. It allows you to enter HTML code into the footer of every post you write and is very simple to use.

All in One SEO Pack

As you can see from the name of the plugin – it’s an all in one SEO pack that assists each post in your blog to be “search engine optimised”. You can either leave your header, meta tags and description of your post just the way they are when you publish, or you can fine tune them to be more specific to keywords you want to use for search engines. I’ve found at times I wanted to add additional keywords and change the description of my post instead of having the default WordPress summarised description. A must have plug-in for serious Internet marketers!

Bird Feeder

If you’re on Twitter and want to save time twitting – the Bird Feeder plugin will automatically feed your most recent posts in the format of: [your message] [post title] [short url] to Twitter. It’s great because you won’t have to double up by copying and pasting your posts back into Twitter or be on Twitter 24/7 (if you’re not already).

FeedBurner FeedSmith

This little gem, the FeedBurner FeedSmith takes your blog’s feed and redirects it to Feedburner. It’s better branding for your site and you won’t have FeedBurner’s domain name showing when a reader clicks on your RSS feed button, e.g. feeds2.feedburner.com/internetbusinesspath become internetbusinesspath.com/feed. For more detailed instructions.

Google XML Sitemaps

If you want to be found on Google, then Google XML Sitemaps plugin is a requirement for your blog. This plugin creates a compliant XML sitemap for the Google bots to crawl your site and it will help your blog achieve higher rankings if you want to be found on their search engine. Once you’ve install this plugin don’t forget to hop onto Google Webmaster Tools to let them know you’ve got a sitemap for them to crawl, otherwise Google won’t know.

Max Banner Ads

Monetising and profiting from your blog couldn’t be any easier. If you have advertisers and want a very streamline and easy way to insert their ads onto your blog, then Max Banner Ads is the plugin for you. I use this on my blog and it’s saved me a lot of time. It’s easy to use and can be very profitable for your blog.

RSS Feed Signature

The RSS Feed Signature is another great plugin to use within your RSS Feeds. It simply adds a customised signature to any RSS Feed that goes out to your subscribers. If you are keen on increasing your subscribers, I would suggest installing this plugin and add a “free eBook offer” to your RSS signature. If you subscribe to my RSS Feed you’ll see the link at the bottom of each feed to take you to the free eBook offer. You can read more about how to download your free eBook from the RSS feed.

Top Commentators Widget

This plugin allows your blog to display a user who has posted the most comments. The Top Commentators Widget shows other readers your highest commentator and will encourage people to find out who they are by clicking on their name. Also the highest commentators websites will be linked automatically onto your blog and can increase your search engine rankings as well. Therefore getting you more traffic and more comments all at the same time.

What Would Seth Godin Do

Most people would know Seth Godin as his name is associated with Internet Marketing Guru. The What Would Seth Godin Do plugin simply displays a welcome message on your blog for first time and returning users. It may ask them to subscribe if they’re a first time user or thank them for coming. It’s a great tool to have to create the “experience” for a user coming to your blog.

WordPress Simple Paypal Shopping cart

If you’re like me who offers advertising on my blog and needs a simple way for advertisers to pay you, then the WordPress Simple Paypal Shopping cart is an easy plugin to install and use. It allows anyone to pay you using Paypal which is used by millions of people worldwide and can save you time having to respond to advertiser’s email with your bank account details and so forth. The plugin has functions to let you add a “Add to cart” button and creates a shopping cart module when the advertiser or user decides to pay you. It will then redirect them to the Paypal website to pay. Very simple to use!

If you haven’t tried any of the plugins above I would highly recommend adding them to your blog. So give it a go!

WordPress Plugins – Free At Maxblogpress

MaxBlogPress is one site I have found to be very useful. They have a lot of good information there. I like their slogan “WordPress Plugins for charging up your wordpress blog for MAX traffic and MAX income” because that is exactly what I want to do.

/>

Pawan Agrawal, the owner of MaxBlogPress, does an excellent job with that blog. It is continuously being upgraded and new things added. He keeps coming out with new plugins to make WordPress work better.

They have many WordPress plugins that are very useful. I use just about all of them on all my blogs. One of my favorite plugins in the one Pawan calls Stripe Ads.

This plugin will put a very small stripe across the top of you blog with as many different ads as you like rotating. These of course are text ads of one sentence because that is all the room you have. But they are great and not intrusive like a popup or other kind of ads.

You also have a lot of control over the ads. Such as the wording, the color of the background, and the color of the text, You can change fonts, bold, and underline the text. You can assign different weights to different ads so some show more than others. You can lock the ad at the top so it all ways shows and doesn’t scroll off the screen.

In fact here is a quote from the description of the plugin. Pawan says it better than I can.

Here’s what you can do with the advanced settings page for Stripe Ads:

* Create an unlimited amount of stripe ads
* Choose the frequency of display and give each ad it’s own weight
* Customize the look and feel of the ads to match your blog’s layout
* Choose to have it static, or to hover at the top of you blog while scrolling down
* Advertise an affiliate link, links to your own products, or special “timed” offers and promotions

You can make the ad stand out like a sore thumb, or neatly blend it in as just another element of your blog – it’s really up to you!
It’s Not Just an Advertising Tool!

Don’t look at Stripe Ads as just a promotional or advertising tool because it’s much, much more.

Stripe Ad is fully customizable to meet any need, and you can do this easily from within your WordPress dashboard under Options > MBP Stripe Ad.

You can also use it to:

* Draw attention to a certain post or page on your blog for example a contest page, your services or a poll.
* Show your disclaimers or Terms of Service (TOS)
* Display an announcement or important news
* Welcome new users and ask them to subscribe to your RSS feed (by displaying the ad for the first 3 visits or a particular user)
* Much, much more (use your imagination folks)

I think that is well said and I would highly recommend you get this plugin. I would also suggest you sign up for Pawan’s newsletter or RSS feed so you can stay informed about all the other things they have.

4 WordPress Plugins That Will Shoot Your Blog For Stardom

In the previous article (4 Essential WordPress Plugins For Your Blog) I shared with you some plugins that I always install on my blogs and despite their importance, we really need a few additional plugins that allow you generate social traffic and promote your social profiles.

/>

Like you would expect, there are thousands of social plugins out there, and I would be lying if I said I tried them all. Still, I installed several of them and I’m convinced you’re gonna enjoy my recommendations.

In no particular order, they are:

Top Commentators: a sidebar widget that displays the top commentators in your blog by showing their names, comment count and a link to a site of their choice. It’s a flexible plugin, so you can easily customize it to fulfill your needs.

Add to Facebook: I bet you heard about Facebook. How could you not? It’s everywhere! This plugin will add a footer link to add your post (or page) to a Facebook mini-feed. There are plenty of blogs out there that get tons of traffic from this plugin alone.

Twitter ReTweet: while Twitter isn’t as big as Facebook, it’s still the 2nd most popular social network and it would be a mistake to ignore it’s audience. The plugin allows your visitors to quickly and easily retweet the current article.

Sociable: This plugins adds tons of social media buttons from all sorts of sites to your posts. There are more networks besides Twitter and Facebook but in my experience their traffic doesn’t convert very well. Still, every bit of help counts and that’s why I use it.

Don’t bother installing more social plugins because it’s not worth it. If a post on your blog goes viral on Twitter or Facebook, everyone will know it. Installing more plugins will slow down the site and clutter the sidebar with useless widgets.

Seo Blogging Software: WordPress Plugins And Themes Are A Powerful Combination

There’s little doubt that blogs are the shining stars in the search engine optimization firmament. And some of the best SEO blogging software comes in the form of WordPress plugins and themes designed to let you maximize your SEO rankings. I have a few favorites.

/>

If you want a comprehensive package of SEO blogging software, you can’t do better than the All in One SEO WordPress Plugin.

This particular piece of SEO blogging software is a true joy, because I can use it to insert titles, keywords, and descriptions to every single WordPress post or page of my website. With that capability, I can really improve my chances of getting noticed by the big search engines.

You will like the All in One SEO Package’s Rewrite Titles feature, because it will show the SEO optimized titles of you posts ahead of the title of you blog in your title tags, so if your post titles are keyword heavy, those keywords will be noticed by Google and friends.

As SEO blogging software goes, I find the All in One pack to be very user friendly. The plugin will create a new options page on your site, where you enter your meta keywords, your site’s title and description.

You can then customize keywords and descriptions for your individual posts, and choose those articles which you choose to have listed ahead of your site’s name in the page title, as mentioned above.

Speaking of Google, another of the SEO blogging software must-haves from WordPress is Google Sitemaps. Use this to instantly enhance your WordPress blog with a sitemap and the plugin will take it from there. It will keep Google informed of any updates to your blog and you can even adapt it to work with Yahoo’s search engine as well.

Another of my recommendations for SEO blogging software is the WordPress SEO themes. The WordPress SEO themes are available in customizable basic formats with either two or three columns.

They include preconstructed headers and sidebars, and the WordPress team has put together a free web tutorial to assist you in using them to maximize your SEO rankings. You won’t have any trouble making these SEO themes look as if they were designed to your site specifications.

SEO blogging software is also available for other blogging platforms, but if you are using WordPress, as I do, you would be better off sticking with the plugins and themes engineered to work with the WordPress coding. There are plenty of them to keep you occupied, so why risk installing something that might do more harm than good?
