Top SEO Myths – Part I

And I do ever wonder what the prominent SEO myths are?

SEO is not an easy task and SEO myths are getting wider every year. The reason is that it’s harder to determine which SEO action has changed the search engine results or in other words ranking of any website. Natural search results are with SEO mainly concerns.

Almost SEO is only knowledge and when you join this search marketing industry, you really have to keep yourself on the top by learning some resurfacing and analyzed top SEO myths:

1. SEO is not a collection of tricks that can be used to get higher ranking. SEO doesn’t mean that you can fool the search engines. The algorithms and indexes rapidly change and search engines are being smartest from smarter everyday.

2. Meta tags should be updated regularly and list whatever you want in that tag. It helps to get found when searched for. And yeah, not all Meta tags are important: a few of them are.

3. Many people do believe that you should submit your site on weekly or monthly basis to search engines but it’s not like that. Submit your web site URL just once and search engines will bother to trace you.

4. A Google sitemap may help you to achieve a higher ranking as it helps to make a website crawler friendly. But it’s also true that it doesn’t guarantee for better ranking.

5. Update your website regularly as it’s the factor which increases the crawl rate. Updations can be done in case they’re required as unnecessary updates may hurt the ranking.

6. The right way to achieve success is don’t do everything for search engines only and everything will be okay.

7. Header tags or H tags can also be helpful to achieve better ranking but it doesn’t mean that you can’t achieve ranking without H tags. Use them as they don’t bring any kind of loss however can bring profits in terms of ranking.

8. Search Engines use algorithms and each algorithm uses different factors while ranking a website. Keyword density is what that will let any web page rank higher. A keyword density of 4 to 15 % is recommended and a too high keyword density will get the website penalized.

9. I think the most economical form of online marketing is SEO and is very cost effective as compared to sponsored or banner advertising. Keep it in mind that SEO clicks are free whereas you need to pay for PPC and all.

10. Many of the SEO guys think that it’s enough to optimize the home page with specified keywords but No. You should add keywords to each and every page of website while paying a little more attention to Home Page.

11. SEO is a never-ending process and no one can guarantee ranking in search engine results.

These are some of the top SEO myths or the essentials of Search Engine Optimization. SEO, as a continuous and never-ending process, may take some time but it pays off good. What SEO requires – incorporation of various changes on and off the website and these changes can be made effectively by SEO professionals only, so think before you fall in some false hands.

Common Seo Copywriting Myths

SEO copywriting is one of the most sought after copywriting services these days which has led to quite a lot of speculation and myth regarding the same. It’s a common notion that any writer can become an SEO copywriter, but experts say that to be an SEO copywriter you need to be thoroughly aware of search engine optimization as a process. Following are five very common myths associated with SEO copywriting –

/>

It’s All About Taming Search Engine Spiders

It is true that search engine optimization is all about pleasing search engine spiders to index your website by feeding them relevant keywords. But by no mean does that imply that SEO copywriting is only concerned with search engines. It is important to take note that a random kind of communication is not successful until and unless your message has been successfully conveyed to your target audience and as much as SEO copywriting is a technique, it is an art as well. Hence, your copy needs to be creative and catchy enough to attract your readers as much as it needs to have keywords in order to attract search engine crawlers.

Stuff In as many Keywords as possible

False! When it comes to SEO, keywords are your best weapons but like everything else, excess of keywords in your content is harmful for you. Beyond a particular percentage if your content is stuffed with keywords then search engines like Google might black list your website or your site content, which surely defies your objective of SEO copywriting. Not more than 3-4% of your web content should comprise keywords. An expert SEO writer would always know this.

SEO Copywriting is Child’s Play

Then why is everybody looking for expert SEO copywriting services? Why not do it in house? Well, because you can’t! SEO copywriting is a science as well as a craft; you need a flair for writing and an analytical bent of mind for it. Hence, one should always chose experts or professionals when it comes to SEO copywriting services.

6 Internet Marketing Myths

Most marketers fail online because they truly believe the 6 internet marketing myths

/>

Every day thousands of people go online to make money but most of them fail miserably because they either truly believe one of the 6 Internet Marketing Myths or or all of them. You can read them below and discover the grain of salt in all of them.

Myth #1: Internet Marketing is EASY.This is probably the biggest myth of all, and let me tell you Internet marketing is hard, takes time, effort not mention money and anyone who suggests otherwise is trying to sell you a bunch of horse hockey. Granted that it’s comparatively easier to brick and mortar in that there’s no inventory to carry, no shipping of goods no sales staff and virtually no overhead, but a lot of work is still involved.

Myth #2: ANYONE Can Make Money Online

Folks, this is simply not true. Unless someone gets off their lazy boy recliner and download/read everything they can about internet marketing, and put an action plan in motion, they will never make a dime on the internet. DO NOTHING, MAKE NOTHING.

Myth #3: You Can “GET RICH QUICK” On the Net!

This is the trap that a lot of newbie internet marketers falls into including myself when I first started, why? because scammers make it sounds so easy and let me tell you, chasing “get rich quick scheme” is a WASTE OF TIME!, money and energy. It just won’t happen overnight, instead do some research and find out what people really want and need then give it to them especially a sense of reality.

Myth #4: It’s FREE to Do Business Online

This is one of my favorite myths because I believed it during my first year of internet marketing and it just wasn’t true then, it isn’t true today. Compared to opening your first coffee shop or gift shop in downtown Los Angeles, internet business start-up cost and maintenance cost is pretty low. Once you have your domain set up, you only pay for internet connection, advertising and ongoing educations, that’s it. You can’t expect to make money selling free stuff and ask others to do the same. Folks! it takes money to make money.

Myth #5: It’s TOO LATE to Start an Internet Business

Most internet marketers would love to hear people say “It’s too late now, too many competitions, I should just pack my bags and go home, the internet is too complicated, etc…”. You know why? the less people they have to compete with the better which in turn will make them more money. The fact is, it’s never ever too late to start anything and that includes internet business. I firmly believe that the internet is not going anywhere and you should too. Every year the stats will show you the number of people shopping online are increasing, their spending dollars are growing and the number of people going online is increasing also.

Myth #6: The BIG Money Talk is JUST HYPE

As I’ve told you before, “it takes money to make money?” Well it’s true, although you will be hard pressed to find experienced internet marketers to tell how much they spend on promoting and advertising. Sometimes, you have to dig a little deeper to find the truth in every hype you read. It’s a fact that the people that makes alot of money online also spends alot of money on advertising, tools, resources and know how to get the job done.

If you are willing to take the necessary action to make ‘big money’ happen for you – it will. It takes time. You can criticize, be skeptical and sure that ‘big money’ can’t happen for you – and it won’t. Sit down and write a financial and a sound business plan. Local Chamber of Commerce can give all the info you need to get started. If you believe that you will succeed you’re right, if you believe that it won’t work, you’re right also.

To summarize, you have heard people’s story how they’re making a fortune on the internet and how easy it is but the reality is some stories are NOT out of this world or unrealistic but it just doesn’t happen overnight. You just have to apply a bit of common sense into it, find what you love to do, have a game plan, stay focus and you my friend might find the right opportunity to make all your dreams come true.

Top Ten SEO Myths – Mr SEO

Top Ten SEO Myths - Mr SEO

Ever wonder what the biggest SEO myths are? I have taken the most prevalent myths that seem to be constantly resurfacing and examined them for you. This is a must read for anyone looking to hire an SEO firm or someone looking to do SEO for themselves.

Myth # 1 All meta tags are of equal importance
Some meta tags are useful while others are not. I have stated this many times. Search engines are relying more and more about what is on the website than what the tags are telling them. The description tag is used by some (but not all) search engines. The same goes for the keyword tag. Keyword tags are used more by spammers and people using software to find you as a link partner than the search engines. In my opinion, the only tags you should concentrate your efforts on are the robot tag and the description tags.

Myth # 2 You should submit your site to search engines weekly or monthly
Honestly, I never submit any site more than 1 time and sometimes I don’t even do that. If you submit your site once, you’re good. The engines will come back on their own. You can sometimes speed up the process of getting your site indexed by linking it to a high traffic or high PR site. The search engines will find the URL to your site and index it automatically.

Myth # 3 SEO is too expensive
Actually, SEO is probably the most cost effective form of online marketing. Organic SEO is cheaper to set up and maintain than a PPC campaign or banner advertising. With PPC and banner advertising, you pay for clicks or impressions. With SEO, all clicks are FREE. You simply pay for the set up and monitoring of your site’s pages.

Myth # 4 PPC is more effective than natural SEO
In the short term…true. In the long term…false. Why, you ask? Organic SEO is preferred by traffic over 5 to 1 to PPC. People trust organic searches to return relevant results. People also know that the ads to the right of the page are sponsored ads. They have long ago figured out that anyone can bid on any term they want, as many often do, without even a hint of relevance. So, long term SEO structuring can indeed be more effective than PPC, especially when considering the preferences of search traffic. A top 5 ranking may take some time to get, but once you are there (and provided you can maintain it), you will get better results than from a PPC ad.

Myth # 5 Hiring an SEO specialist “in house” is cheaper
The problem with hiring someone in house is, they are paid hourly or by salary. Most SEO firms (Mr-SEO included), charge per item or project. It doesn’t matter how long it takes us, you pay a one time charge. When you hire a firm, it’s like having a team of SEO experts on your payroll. Paying a flat rate saves you money and speeds up the time it takes to complete a job. Additionally, most SEO firms (again, Mr-SEO Included) have specialists who write, submit, redesign sites, post pages, etc… Hiring one person who can do all these things competently is highly unlikely.

Myth # 6 I can only optimize my homepage for keyterms
You can and should optimize every page on your site. Each page should have it’s own keyterms, with no more than three phrases per page (preferably one).

Myth # 7 All I need to do is write content with the correct keyword density and my site will rank well
Wrong…especially if you want to rank on Google. You will need off site SEO as well as onsite SEO. Keyword density may work on MSN (for now), but it will take more than that to rank well for all search engines.

Myth # 8 I shouldn’t aim for the most competitive keywords and phrases
If the keywords you are competing for are very competitive, should you optimize your site for them? Of Course! I would optimize for some high, medium and low competitive keyterms. Cover all your bases. The worst case is that you won’t rank well for the high competitive keyterms and that’s ok. You can always work to improve them. Don’t shy away from top keyterms just because they are competitive. You may never know how close you could rank for them unless you try.

Myth # 9 Only work with companies that give you a guarantee
Guarantees would be nice if they were worth the paper they are printed on. In fact, most guarantees from SEO firms have the same stipulation in them. This stipulation usually states that as long as they get one of your keyphrases to the top of any major search engines, they have fulfilled their end of the agreement. This is irrelevant to the competition of the term. In other words…it’s easy to be number one for terms no one is competing for. Don’t be deceived by high rankings listed on SEO sites as they can be misleading.

Myth # 10 SEO requires a 1 year commitment on my part
It certainly shouldn’t. Don’t lock yourself into a year contract with any company unless you already have an established, favorable business relationship. SEO, in most cases, should be performed on a month to month basis with a mutual understanding of the objectives and relative timetable. Often, both the long and short term maintenance contracts that many firms insist on including with each job are unnecessary. As an example…If you have a new site optimized, especially right after an update, you may not see results for three months. Why pay for maintenance in the interim time? Additionally, you may not be happy with the results of an SEO firm or even the level of service. A long term contract may only ensure that you receive a full year of bad service. So, don’t lock yourself in with a year contract, at least until you are comfortable with who you are dealing with.

Hopefully, I put a few common SEO myths to rest. Feel free to contact me with questions you may have regarding these or other SEO myths you want more information on.

Top Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Myths

Top Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Myths

SEO Myth: Your top ten search engine ranking can be guaranteed

The Truth: Some SEO firms will advertise a “guarantee” to have you listed in the top ten rankings. No one other than the search engines themselves can guarantee any ranking. Don’t believe it. Trust their results for other clients and make your decision from actual client successes, not empty promises and guarantees.

SEO Myth: In-House SEO Is Cheaper

The Truth: SEO professionals can get higher rankings faster because Search Engine Optimization and Marketing is complex, technical and has a steep learning curve. We also place a team at your disposal, including a copywriters, developers and SEO specialists and unless you have a room full of marketing staff dedicated to SEO it is hard to keep up. How much is 10, 15, 20 hours a month worth to you in a dollar amount? SEO professionals make you money by saving you that time and effort, at a cost you can afford.

SEO Myth: Search Engine Leads Are Worth Less Than Other Leads

The Truth: Search Engine leads are the probably the most qualified leads, because they come from people searching for the exact products and services which the search engines have you indexed. They are looking for you, not the other way around. Keep in mind you must be targeting the right keywords, but that is the job of your SEO firm, to help you choose the right keywords.

SEO Myth: Websites are optimized while they are being developed.

The Truth: A small percentage of designers and developers actually optimize pages for the search engines while they are building. Most search engine optimization is done after the fact, if at all. As many as 60% of all sites are not properly optimized to rank high in the search engines, so anything you do to optimize your site puts it ahead of your competitors who don’t.

SEO Myth: Simply inserting keywords in the keyword meta tag will help list your site for that keyword

The Truth: Most major search engines do not spider or index the keyword meta tag and those that do, if the keyword is not also in the copy of the same page, it’s considered spam which could lower your rankings, not raise it. At best the keyword tag is used by directories when submitting your site.

SEO Myth: The more times you repeat the keyword in the page, the higher it will rank.

The Truth: This is a little tricky since each algorithm uses different factors for ranking. A keyword density of 3 to 15% is recommended for tweaking the page for higher placement (depending on the individual search engine). Combined with other optimization efforts and tweaks, the proper keyword density will get listed higher. A keyword density that is too high will get listed lower or penalized.

SEO Myth: Hidden links or text in a page can get your page ranked higher.

The Truth: Keyword stuffing and hidden links in the page can get your site penalized or banned if detected. It is considered spamming by some engines. Most people think it’s not worth the risk.

SEO Myth: The more reciprocal links to other sites you have, the higher your Google page rank goes.

The Truth: Outbound links to related and unrelated sites are factored into page rank. Unreciprocated links count higher than reciprocated links. The more quality inbound links to your site, the higher the PR, but nobody knows exactly how Google factors their PR and their algorithm is constantly adjusted. A million links to and from unrelated sites could drop your PR and if your site is found linking to obvious FFA or link farms, your site could be penalized as being ‘guilty by association’.

SEO Myth: You don’t need to update your site to keep your rankings.

The Truth: By routine maintenance (removing outdated material, fixing broken links, queries, etc.) and updating your pages regularly, you are signaling the bots and crawlers to come back and re-crawl your site for changes to their listings. To maintain high standings, you need to keep at it and tweak the pages for better results if necessary. If neglected, your standings could easily slip out of the top rankings as new competing sites get indexed and optimized.

SEO Myth: You can achieve higher rankings on a keyword without changing the code or content of the pages in your site.

The Truth: Not likely for long. Any elevated results will be temporary. If you want to steadily improve your ranking, you must make changes to your site that help the search engines spider it. You might temporarily raise your ranking by running regular queries and reports on search engines for your keywords but steady results are dependent on your willingness to optimize and tweak the code and content of your pages. A simple thing like fixing broken links can contribute to elevating your listings. It’s one of the most overlooked search engine tweaks. Search engines will not continue to spider a site when it runs into a number of broken links.
